The Master of Arts in Liberal Studies (MALS) is a unique degree program within the School of Arts and Sciences. It was established in 1994 to provide students the opportunity for cross-disciplinary studies in a small classroom settings. It is a 30 credit hour (9 classes plus a capstone project) M.A. program offering a broad range of courses in literature, history, philosophy, religion, the social sciences, and the arts. Classes meet during convenient early evening hours and weekends. Classes are offered at JBMDL as well as online. MALS is intended to provide students with the kind of intellectual stimulation that comes from working with a highly qualified faculty of expert scholars in a variety of disciplines, and with fellow students from diverse backgrounds.
